Run Chenango Donation Supports Stone Quarry Purchase
Proceeds from Move Around Chenango, the first virtual event of the 2021 Run Chenango Challenge, will support the Chenango Greenway Conservancy’s purchase of the Stone Quarry property.
Participants tracked miles from January 18th until March 20th and tried to accumulate 172.5 miles (roughly the perimeter of Chenango County) by running, walking, bike riding, snowshoeing, skiing, or swimming. Fifty-seven participants logged a cumulative total of approximately 7,150 miles during the event.
Run Chenango’s President, Ann Coe, says the group was excited to begin the 2021 Challenge by supporting the Stone Quarry purchase with their donation. Run Chenango was established in 2018 and we’ve slowly gained a small following that participate in events that support non-profits in our County. When we heard about the proposed Stone Quarry purchase by the Chenango Greenway Conservancy we knew we wanted to be a part of the fund raising. The Move Around Chenango event was the first where participants could accumulate mileage with various forms of intentional exercise solo or on a team of two or three. We had an enthusiastic group that jumped right in. A few participants logged total mileage in the first week!
The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) public charity organized in 2006 to develop a network of multiple use recreation trails in and around the City of Norwich. The Greenway Conservancy has a contract to purchase the Stone Quarry and is conducting a fundraiser to raise enough money to buy it. To learn more about the Stone Quarry and join in the effort to purchase the property, visit the Chenango Greenway website or their Facebook page.
Run Chenango supports local walking and running events organized by non-profits and seeks to promote a healthy lifestyle. The next virtual event in the 2021 Challenge is the Norwich Dollars for Scholars Annual 5K Walk/Run scheduled to take place Friday April 3 – Sunday May 2.
