3rd Annual Race To The Face

3rd Annual Race to the Face 5K & Mountain Goat Challenge

Each year, the Chenango Greenway Conservancy’s Race to the Face grows a little bigger and a little better—and this year’s third annual race was no exception. With perfect fall weather, spirited runners, and an enthusiastic crowd, it was the kind of day that reminds us why we love these trails and the people who make them come alive.

Seventeen-year-old Anthony Bourn of Oxford returned to defend his 5K title, once again crossing the finish line first with an impressive run. Close behind was David Blomquist, whose strong finish made for an exciting race to the end. We hope to see both runners back next year for another great showdown. Whittaker Ryan earned this year’s Mountain Goat Challenge, becoming the first runner (after Anthony) to ring the bell at the top of the Stone Quarry.

The weather couldn’t have been better—blue skies, warm sunshine, and a light fall breeze. Families, volunteers, and spectators gathered to cheer on runners as they tackled the Stone Quarry climb from downtown Norwich.

We were thrilled to have Knuckle Down Coffee as a sponsor again this year and to welcome the Bitter Brew Bus from Bittersweet Farm Brewery—the perfect post-race refreshment after a climb to the Face! Many participants made a full day of it, stopping by Chobani’s Saturdays in the Park before heading over to the race area, making it a celebration of community, local flavor, and the outdoors.

Events like Race to the Face 5k and Mountain Goat Challenge remind us that trails are more than just pathways through nature—they’re places that bring people together. From first-time runners to seasoned athletes, every participant contributed to the energy and excitement that make this race special.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, sponsors, and families who made this event possible. Each year, your dedication helps the Chenango Greenway Conservancy continue its mission to connect people with nature and preserve the green spaces that make our community thrive.

It truly gets better every year, and we can’t wait to see everyone back next time for another climb, another challenge, and another celebration at the Face!
