The Chenango Greenway Conservancy held its Annual Meeting on December 4th, celebrating a year of progress and looking ahead to an exciting 2025.

2024 Accomplishments

Chair, Sharon Pelosi, highlighted the Greenway’s achievements over the past year, including significant strides toward developing a rail trail along the existing railroad bed. Vice Chair, Tom Holmes spoke about the Chenango Heritage Rail Trail (CHRT) Committee and their dedication to moving this project forward.

Board of Directors Updates
The membership approved nominations for the Board of Directors, welcoming Inez Moutarde and Nancy Brunton as new members and Chris Sprague for a renewed term.

Looking Ahead to 2025
The Greenway’s 2025 priorities focus on growth, accessibility, and community engagement:

  • Apply for a NYSON Grant to support capacity-building efforts.

  • Install signage and a kiosk at Patsy’s Riverview to enhance visitor experience.

  • Continue work at the Stone Quarry with new signage and trail mapping funded by the Recreational Trails Grant.

  • Launch a year-long photo contest, with winning photos featured in fundraising items like calendars and note cards.

  • Promote bench sponsorships to enhance the Greenway experience. We’re excited to already have commitments for two benches from Greenway members.

Awards and Recognition
We also celebrated the contributions of some of our dedicated volunteers:

  • 2024 Sasquatch Award: John Rogers and Bill Pomares were honored for their spirited involvement.

  • Official Sasquatch Handler: Vicki Merritt earned this fun and honorary title!

  • Volunteer of the Year Awards: Congratulations to Inez Moutarde and Mike Distefano for their outstanding service and dedication.
