This September, we’re inviting everyone to come together for a day of outdoor fun at the Chenango Greenway Conservancy! Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 28, 2024, and get ready to experience the Race to the Face and Mountain Goat Challenge 5K Run or Walk. Whether you’re an avid hiker, a casual walker, or just someone who loves spending time outdoors with friends, this event is for you. The race will start in West Park, where you’ll make your way up to the beautiful stone quarry overlook and then head back down. It’s a chance to enjoy the crisp autumn air, take in the stunning views, and share a memorable experience with your friends and family. The best part? This event is all about having fun and enjoying the journey, not just reaching the finish line. Why not gather a group of friends and tackle the challenge together? It’s a wonderful way to reconnect with the natural beauty of our community and make new memories along the way. Plus, every participant will receive a T-shirt to commemorate the day—and, of course, lifelong bragging rights for making it to the face of the quarry!   • Tales and Trails Halloween Hike

    The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Halloween Event!  It is a family friendly guided hike into the darkness of the deep woods of west hill.  We will travel back in time to the era of stone workers, when tales of long ago were shared at Dimross.  The journey to Dimross is just one mile, but will take you back ages to a time when the world was new and magic was everywhere.  You'll meet a Wizard and The Green Lady and perhaps a ghoul, or is that a tree? The journey lasts about 2 hours, but the memory will last a lifetime!  Come join us! Where: Upper Ravine Road Trailhead (first driveway past the CIT) When: Saturday 26OCT24, 6:30-8:30pm (rain date Sunday)

    Start the New Year on the Right Foot with a First Day Hike Kick off the New Year with intention, fresh air, and scenic views! The Chenango Greenway Conservancy invites you to join us for a First Day Hike led by Greenway members Inez Moutarde and Sharon Pelosi. This family-friendly event is the perfect way to celebrate new beginnings, connect with nature, and set your goals for the year ahead. Event Details: Date: January 1, 2025 Time: 10:00 AM (Please arrive a few minutes early to get settled) Meeting Location: Dungeon Parking Lot (Greenway parking lot on Upper Ravine Road) Hike Overview: This easy-to-moderate 2-mile hike will take participants along the beautiful trail to Dimross. For those looking for a little extra adventure, there will be an option to continue on to the Stone Quarry Face, offering stunning views and a rewarding experience. What to Bring: Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. Optional: A small notebook or journal to reflect on your goals and intentions for the year. Why Join a First Day Hike? Along the way, you’ll stop at two special trail spots where storytellers will share tales that bring the season to life.   • Kick off the New Year with Our First Day Hike 2026

    Kick off the New Year with fresh air, movement, and community at our First Day Hike. This guided winter hike will be led by Beth Stewart, John and Judy Killean, offering participants a chance to enjoy local trails while welcoming the year ahead with intention and connection. The hike will cover approximately 2–4 miles and is expected to take 2–3 hours, depending on group interest and conditions. The pace will be relaxed and adjusted to the hikers present. Participants should bring: • Snowshoes • Water • A snack • Appropriate winter footwear and layers This hike is open to all who are comfortable hiking in winter conditions and looking to begin the year outdoors.
